The ruling ideology of neoliberalism—the justification by the ruling elites for their destruction of our democracy and consolidation of wealth and power—no longer has any credibility across the political spectrum. Critics of the corporate coup d'état, the crimes of empire, ecocide, institutional racism and our failed democracy, already pushed to the margins of the media landscape, are being demonized as agents of a foreign power and subjected to algorithms on Facebook, Twitter and Google that divert readers away from their content. This censorship is being imposed on sites such as Truthdig because the elites have no counterargument left. The only tool left to corporate power is, as George Orwell wrote, “a boot stamping on a human face—forever.”
Make no mistake: We are in a war to protect the truth and sustain the resistance. Truthdig gives space day after day to those who have been silenced by the corporate media. There are fewer and fewer venues left with this independence. It is imperative that those of us who care about protecting the truth, relentlessly calling out the powerful for their crimes and abuse, and giving a voice to the victims of corporate capitalism, white supremacy, patriarchy and imperialism stand with sites such as Truthdig.
Corporate power seeks nothing less than our destruction, part of the reason Internet neutrality was revoked. We may not succeed. The forces arrayed against us are powerful and brutal. The acceleration of global warming and looming financial crisis means we have little time left to overthrow our corporate masters. We have a moral imperative to fight back, especially for those who follow after us. Let us stand up and resist so future generations will at least say “they tried.”
We cannot do this alone. Truthdig needs your solidarity and support. Together we have a chance.
