Bio

Andrew Foster Altschul is the author of the novels Deus Ex Machina and Lady Lazarus. His short fiction and essays have appeared in Esquire, Ploughshares, McSweeney's, Fence, One Story, StoryQuarterly, and anthologies such as Best New American Voices and O. Henry Prize Stories. A former Wallace Stegner Fellow and Jones Lecturer at Stanford, he has also received fellowships from the Bread Loaf and Sewanee Writers Conferences and the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center. He was the founding Books Editor of The Rumpus and is a Contributing Editor at Zyzzyva. From 2009-2015 he directed the Center for Literary Arts at San Jose State University.
