Author, activist and Truthdig columnist Chris Hedges gave this speech, filmed for the clip below by the Lannan Foundation, in New York’s Liberty Square calling on Trinity Church to open the property it owns on 6th Avenue and Canal Street to the Occupy Wall Street movement. Here’s a response from within the church, plus an update on OWS’ plans for the space.

Below the video of Hedges’ speech is footage from the Dec. 4 services at Trinity Wall Street, in which the Rev. Dr. James H. Cooper described the church’s relationship with Occupy Wall Street protesters. Regardless of Trinity’s attempts to placate all involved parties at the same time, however, there will be an attempt to occupy the space without permission on the 17th of December if the church does not open the property to the movement by that date.
