He spent only two years in Congress before losing the gig in 2010, and just like that you can drop the “former” from Rep. Alan Grayson’s title. The good people of Orlando, Fla., are sending the sharp-tongued liberal fireball back to work in the Capitol.

With 223,035 votes counted, Grayson is beating his opponent by almost 24 percentage points.

Grayson became famous for not pulling any punches and sticking to his guns. See the video below, in which he says the Republican health care plan amounts to “don’t get sick … and if you do get sick … die quickly.”

Grayson spoke with Truthdig Radio back in the summer of 2011 about his plans to return to Congress and why the Democrats need more fight in them.

WAIT BEFORE YOU GO...

This year, the ground feels uncertain — facts are buried and those in power are working to keep them hidden. Now more than ever, independent journalism must go beneath the surface.

At Truthdig, we don’t just report what's happening — we investigate how and why. We follow the threads others leave behind and uncover the forces shaping our future.

Your tax-deductible donation fuels journalism that asks harder questions and digs where others won’t.

Don’t settle for surface-level coverage.

Unearth what matters. Help dig deeper.
