As Greek lawmakers prepare to vote on EU austerity demands attached to a new bailout, civil servants announced a 24-hour strike, and hundreds of protesters gathered in Athens to show their opposition to the terms.

Many Greeks see a lifetime of debt for their country and severely degraded lives for those who remain within its borders if the bailout is approved. They say Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, leader of the Syriza party elected to power five months ago, has betrayed them.
