U.N. Gets a Look at 2nd Iranian Uranium Plant

The continuing drama surrounding Iran’s nuclear program took a daring turn earlier this month when the U.S. revealed the existence of a secret uranium enrichment plant. Now U.N. inspectors have checked out that plant, and will do so again in the next couple days.

But the inspections come even as a proposed deal that would see Iran’s enriched uranium sent to Russia for processing was being bad-mouthed by several key members of the Iranian parliament. — JCL

A team from the UN’s nuclear watchdog has inspected a previously secret uranium enrichment plant in Iran, Iranian officials and media have said.

The inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency are expected to visit the facility, near the holy city of Qom, again over the next two days.

The visit comes as world powers await Iran’s response to a new proposed deal over its uranium enrichment programme.

Iran would send some enriched uranium to Russia to be turned into fuel.
