U.N. Forecasts From the Future Predict Climate Hell

A series of year 2050 weather forecasts imagined by well-known television presenters warns of “floods, storms and searing heat from Arizona to Zambia” in support of this year’s United Nations climate summit, The Guardian reports.

“Miami South Beach is underwater,” says one forecaster among Japan’s NHK, the U.S. Weather Channel and ARD in Germany. “The mega-drought in Arizona has claimed another casualty,” reports another.

A Bulgarian presenter shows a red map with temperatures of 122 Fahrenheit — 9 degrees above the country’s top recorded temperature of 113 Fahrenheit recorded in 1916.

The Guardian reports that U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has asked international leaders to make “bold pledges” at the conference, which begins this month in New York City. Efforts at such changes have been hailed and abandoned by leading countries annually since the conference series first grabbed the world’s attention in Copenhagen in 2009.
