Occupy Wall Street will hold a number of major events Saturday. First will be a march on a JPMorgan Chase branch to protest the $94.7 billion taxpayer bailout of the company and the bank’s layoff of 14,000 workers since then. In a show of opposition to Chase and other major banks that took taxpayer money, protesting customers will wield their “collective economic power” by closing their accounts, OWS spokesperson Bill Buster said.
Moveon.org and a number of unions helped OWS organize the march.
Protesters will also stage an occupation at Fordham Plaza in the Bronx, an anti-war march on Wall Street followed by a teach-in on the cost of war, a meeting to discuss the role of students in the movement and more, including some Internet shenanigans that Buster said he was not privy to. There will also be an occupation party at 5 p.m. in Times Square where demonstrators are supposed to wear only white.
Organizers said they hoped that 10,000 to 30,000 people will show up. –ARK
