Stephen Colbert: NSA Is Distracting Us From FBI’s ‘Great Snooping’
The National Security Agency has been plastered all over the news since Edward Snowden leaked documents showing how widespread American surveillance is. But, as the late night pundit points out, the Federal Bureau of Investigation is also doing a pretty darn good job playing Big Brother.
The National Security Agency has been plastered all over the news since Edward Snowden leaked documents showing how widespread American surveillance is. It’s gotten to the point where there are so many NSA agents snooping on online video gamers (despite failing to come up with any evidence that this is an effective counterterrorism method) that a “deconfliction” group was created to make sure the agents weren’t spying on one another. Talk about a great use of resources.
But Stephen Colbert is in full support of the indiscriminate data collection being thwarted, much to his chagrin, by the “certified nut-lid” Snowden. The pundit’s confident, however, that the NSA will be able to lure Snowden back into its fiery lair by offering him amnesty in order to figure out how much he truly knows.
And while all this is extremely important, as the late night show host points out, the Federal Bureau of Investigation is also doing a pretty darn good job playing Big Brother. Apparently, its agents have been finding ways to use webcams to spy on computer owners without turning the lights on the devices to alert users. But fear not, Colbert has an excellent product to help avoid the FBI watching you through your own camera lens.
