Ryan VP Buzz, Romney’s ‘War on Religion’ Charge, and More

The twitterverse was all abuzz Thursday morning about the possibility of Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan being chosen as Mitt Romney’s running mate. The buzz came after articles by The Wall Street Journal and The Weekly Standard, among others, advocating the budget master’s selection. It must have helped, since he did win a former White House press secretary’s entirely unscientific Twitter poll, which also came out Thursday. (Read more)

Another Battle: The war on drugs. The war on women. Clearly there are already enough “wars” going on. But in his latest campaign ad, Mitt Romney accuses President Obama of waging another one: the war on religion. The ad asks, “When religious freedom is threatened, who do you want to stand with?” This all stems from Obama’s so-called contraceptive mandate, which stipulates that health insurance companies must provide birth control without a co-pay. The ad is meant to appeal to Catholics, even though a majority of them don’t have a problem with contraceptives in the first place. (Read more)

Crazy Obama Claim: Is the following the most ridiculous rumor surrounding President Obama ever? Jerome Corsi, a tea party activist (and conspiracy theorist), claims to have “evidence” that not only is the president secretly gay or bisexual, but that he may have also once been married to a man. Said Corsi: “Obama had all these roommate pictures [where he] seems to be sitting about on the guy’s lap. I’ve not seen a lot of roommate pictures where two guys are that chummy! Was he married to a guy, I mean, what’s the deal?” All together now: facepalm. (Read more)

Bidding Obama Adieu: In 2008, three-quarters of the political contributions of employees at Goldman Sachs were earmarked for Democrats and Barack Obama. But four years later, the vast majority of those donations—roughly 70 percent—are going to Republicans and Mitt Romney. Although that’s the biggest party switch among the 25 companies whose employees have given the most to political parties and candidates since 1989, Goldman Sachs isn’t alone in changing its political preference. In fact, according to Bloomberg, employees at 13 of those companies are now donating more to Republicans after supporting Democrats in 2008. (Read more)
