Obama Too Busy to Meet With Jobs Council:

President Obama has not met with his Jobs Council for the past six months because he’s been too busy, according to White House press secretary Jay Carney. “There’s no specific reason, except the president has obviously got a lot on his plate, but he continues to solicit and receive advice from numerous folks outside the administration about the economy about ideas that he can act on with Congress or administratively to help the economy grow and help create jobs,” Carney said Wednesday. Christie Not a Lock to Give Keynote at RNC: Contrary to reports, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has not officially been tapped to give the keynote speech at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., next month, a Romney spokesperson said Wednesday. “You’ll have to stay tuned,” said Andrea Saul. That statement’s also probably true of whether Mitt Romney will ever release more of his tax returns (the answer, by the way, is probably not). (Read more)

Millions May Be Disenfranchised by ID Laws: Even with free photo ID cards available, new state voter photo ID laws may still be burdensome to some people and discourage them from exercising their right to cast their ballot this November, a new report from the Brennan Center says. According to the report, “Voter ID laws will make it harder for hundreds of thousands of poor Americans to vote. They place a serious burden on a core constitutional right that should be universally available to every American citizen.” (Read more)

Weiner Not Planning Comeback: Anthony Weiner said he won’t be running for public office again anytime soon, presumably ending days of speculation that the former Democratic congressman was planning a political comeback — at least for now. Said Weiner: “I can’t say absolutely that I will never run for public office again, but I’m very happy in my present life. I’m not doing anything to plan a campaign.” If he does run for office again, he might want to lie low with the Twitter, though. (Read more)

But this might be the best Bushism of all: “Eight years was awesome and I was famous and I was powerful.” Yes, Dubya actually said that last week for those of you wondering whether it was just Will Ferrell’s impression of Bush saying that. Video of the Day: John McCain isn’t always on the right side of issues. But in this particular instance, he done good. On Wednesday, the Arizona senator stood up in the Senate to defend Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin (wife of Anthony Weiner) from Rep. Michele Bachmann and other House Republicans’ unproven accusations that Abedin is a Muslim extremist. For that, McCain deserves major props.
