Depending on which stat blog you’re reading, Republicans have anywhere from a 63 to a 96 percent chance to win the Senate and take control of Congress.

FiveThirtyEight (of Nate Silver fame) puts the likelihood of a GOP majority at 75.1 percent. Republicans are likely to have a 52- or 53-seat majority in the Senate, according to the blog.

This does not come as a great surprise, with pollsters having predicted a loss for the Democrats since President Obama’s numbers began taking a nosedive somewhere around the government shutdown. He has never recovered.

FiveThirtyEight did have Democrats narrowing the gap in mid-September, but since then they’ve been slipping further and further away.

Despite all this, it may be days and even weeks before we know for certain who will control Congress, thanks to potential runoffs and an independent candidate in Kansas who is playing his cards very close to his chest.
