Racism is so successfully marketed in our societies, says British hip-hop artist Akala, that even he looks askance at a young black man holding a lot of cash.

The consequence is what he calls “everyday racism”—a constant, low-level bias entailing daily microaggressions. If we did away with propaganda, he says, we’d have a better chance of doing away with it.
