What a card, that President Obama, who suited up in a tux and served up a fresh batch of birther jokes Saturday night at the bizarre annual ritual known as the White House Correspondents Dinner. Taking aim at Fox News and Donald Trump, who stood out among the various sycophants media representatives, celebrities and politicos with his signature hair-whorl and pout, Obama turned on the charm to gamely repackage recent news as fodder for all in attendance to enjoy as entertainment. Kind of sounds like the current state of the news industry, no?
While he was at it, the president boosted the morale of those seated at the beleaguered NPR table, which appeared to be located in Siberia, cracking that their new slate of programming should include shows like “No Things Considered” and “Wait, Wait, Don’t Fund Me.” Har har. And Obama seized the opportunity to start a birther rumor of his own about the very deserving Rep. Michele Bachmann, remarking that she might be running for president, “which is weird, because I heard she was born in Canada. … Yes, Michele, this is how it starts.”
All very congenial, and everyone looked so nice! Did you see Michelle Obama’s hair? Fierce. Now get back to work spinning the headlines, people. –KA
