Oliver Stone Urges Action to End ‘Surveillance State’
In a new video produced by the ACLU, the Academy Award-winning filmmaker says it's time to take a stand for American civil liberties in the wake of the recent revelations about the scope of the National Security Agency's massive surveillance program.
In a new video produced by the American Civil Liberties Union, Academy Award winner Oliver Stone encourages all U.S. citizens to take action in the wake of the recent revelations about the scope of the National Security Agency’s massive surveillance program.
According to Stone, the leaks exposed by NSA whistle-blower Edward Snowden, whom the filmmaker has hailed as a hero, “have given us a glimpse into our government’s gigantic surveillance machine” that “is eating our freedom.”
Stone says it’s time for Americans to stand up for civil liberties that are being encroached upon and tell congressional representatives to roll back the NSA’s spying programs by repealing section 215 of the Patriot Act and section 702 of the FISA Amendments Act.
“The question is not whether we have something to hide,” he says. “The question is whether we control the government or the government controls us.”
