Obama’s Winning Haul

: After several months in which his fundraising totals were less than Mitt Romney, Barack Obama has finally managed to raise more cash than the GOP presidential nominee in one month. For August, the Obama campaign brought in more than $114 million, narrowly besting Romney’s fundraising total of $111 million. This is the first time since April that Obama has raised more in a single month than Romney. (Read more)

‘Putting Everything on Hold’: Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, onetime chief of staff to President Obama, has stopped fundraising for a super PAC supporting his former boss after teachers in his city went on strike. Emanuel canceled a planned appearance for Priorities USA Action and suspended his activities with the organization Monday, the same day Chicago teachers started walking the picket lines. (Read more)

Mitt’s Obamacare Flip-Flop?: Has Mitt Romney changed his position on Obamacare? The GOP nominee has repeatedly said that if elected president he would repeal the health care law, but on “Meet the Press” on Sunday he said he would keep major parts of it intact, including making sure those with pre-existing conditions had access to insurance coverage. However, according to The Washington Post’s Ezra Klein, Romney’s position hasn’t changed though it appears he is trying to deliberately confuse people about his beliefs by being so vague. Flynt Offers Hackers Reward: Remember how Mitt Romney’s tax returns were allegedly stolen online by a group of anonymous hackers and were being ransomed for a cool $1 million? Well guess what? Larry Flynt, publisher of Hustler magazine, is offering up to a million dollars for information regarding Romney’s tax returns. Who knows, maybe Romney would release them himself for that much money. Opponents Set to Speak at Same Event: Barack Obama and Mitt Romney are both slated to address the eighth annual Clinton Global Initiative this month. The two, of course, are not scheduled to appear together, saving the world from that potentially awkward moment. (Read more)

Video of the Day: OK, technically, this one comes from late Friday. But this latest rebuke of Fox News after the Democratic National Convention by “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart—which involves the conservative cable news channel dissing Democrats for the very same thing it praised Republicans for the previous week—is so good it still deserves play three days later.
