The Supreme Court on Tuesday heard oral arguments in the case concerning Proposition 8, the California ballot initiative that bars same-sex couples from marrying in the state. The case is the first of two the court will hear this week on gay marriage; justices will listen to arguments on the Defense of Marriage Act (better known as DOMA) on Wednesday.
