Limbaugh’s ‘Ringing’ Endorsement, Another Bad GOP Rape Analogy, and More

Limbaugh Would Vote for Elmer Fudd:

How’s this for a Mitt Romney endorsement? Right-wing radio pundit Rush Limbaugh says the GOP presidential nominee might as well be Elmer Fudd, because it’s not like Republican voters are casting their ballots for Romney anyway. Said Limbaugh: “He may as well be Elmer Fudd as far as we’re concerned. We’re voting against Obama. I don’t care who they put on the ticket, we’re voting against Obama.” Can’t wait for the Romney camp to run that political ad! (Read more)

Akin’s Back: Todd Akin, the Missouri Senate candidate who received nationwide attention (and not the good kind) for saying women “rarely” get pregnant as a result of “legitimate rape,” made his first campaign appearance since he made the controversial remarks last month. Is the campaign a little jumpy? You could say so, based on its threat to have a reporter arrested for trespassing if she didn’t leave. Freelance journalist Diane Reese was ultimately let back into the event and wrote about the experience — as well as the actual campaign event — for The Washington Post’s “She The People” blog. Kyl’s Bad Rape Analogy: And speaking of Republicans and the issue of rape—Arizona Sen. Jon Kyl made an absurd analogy about the U.S. Embassy attacks in Cairo. And yes, it somehow involved rape. Here’s what Kyl said about the statement released by the embassy: “It’s like the judge telling the woman who got raped, ‘You asked for it because of the way you dressed.’ OK? That’s the same thing. ‘Well America, you should be the ones to apologize, you should have known this would happen, you should have done — what I don’t know — but it’s your fault that it happened.’ ” You would think by now GOP leaders would encourage its elected officials not to make any comparisons involving rape, but then again, Kyl is the No. 2 Republican in the Senate. Birther Convention Canceled: A convention devoted to birtherism, the conspiracy theory that President Barack Obama was actually born in Kenya, has been canceled because apparently there are not enough birthers to warrant one. “Birtherpalooza” was supposed to feature Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio and singer Pat Boone. Somewhere, Donald Trump must be very disappointed. (Read more)

Video of the Day: Those who were wondering who would play Mitt Romney on “Saturday Night Live” if Jason Sudeikis left the show need no longer worry. Sudeikis is planning on staying, meaning that not only does the longtime sketch comedy program have someone to play Romney in the fall, but it also has its Joe Biden back. And it gives us a good excuse to replay this classic from 2008, in which Sudeikis as Biden debated Tina Fey as Sarah Palin.
