Former Fugee Has High Hopes for Haitian Presidency

Musician and native Haitian Wyclef Jean, who also represents one-third of the Fugees himself, is pondering a bid to become Haiti’s next president. Jean, who made pleas for his homeland after last winter’s earthquake on behalf of his Yéle Haiti Foundation, hasn’t kept his ideas under wraps, either, and his family was at the ready on Tuesday with a press release to drum up further interest in Jean’s potential plans. –KA

The singer is mulling a bid for the top job in Haiti, which is up for grabs in November. Asked about the possibility of running by CNN, he said he’s already filled out the paperwork.

“I can’t sing forever,” he said.

Then there was his family, which took to the press with its own statement Tuesday:

“Wyclef’s commitment to his homeland and its youth is boundless and he will remain the greatest supporter regardless of whether he is part of the government going forward,” the statement said.
