Carly Fiorina has been giving Barbara Boxer cause to worry about her Senate seat as the midterm elections loom large, but the contest in California took an unexpected turn Tuesday, when Fiorina suspended her campaign to deal with an infection stemming from a round of post-breast cancer reconstructive surgery she underwent in the summer. However, her chief of staff emphasized that her turnaround time after this hospital visit will be short. –KA

The Wall Street Journal:

While this will impact her campaign schedule today, Carly is upbeat and her doctors expect her to make a quick and full recovery and be back out on the campaign trail soon,” Ms. Bowker said.

Campaign staffers wouldn’t elaborate on the terse statement, which also said Ms. Fiorina remains cancer-free after being treated for it last year.
