And this “madness” has left pundit Stephen Colbert befuddled, to say the least. “Being transgender is just not fair. I put 49 years into being a dude then some Joanie-come-lately says she’s a Johnnie and suddenly I have to pay her the same as a man?” shouts Colbert in apparent frustration.
But the “Colbert Report” host doesn’t want to fall into the same controversial (some might say inconsiderate or ignorant) slip-ups as Katie Couric and Piers Morgan when it comes to transgender individuals. Thus, while Colbert simply doesn’t understand why sexuality is no longer encompassed by male or female, he’s made the effort to invite writer and “Piers Morgan abuser” Janet Mock onto the show to explain how people identify in a rich variety of ways that should not leave them open to scrutiny or disrespect. Mock even helps Colbert figure out how he identifies so he knows what to say when asked.
