Former New York Times reporter Judith Miller testified today that the vice president’s former chief of staff first mentioned a war critic’s wife worked at the CIA in a confidential conversation June 23.
Miller said that in a meeting at the Old Executive Office Building a “very irritated and angry” I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby told her that the CIA was trying to unfairly blame the White House for bad intelligence. In that context, she said, Libby complained that a former ambassador accusing the administration of twisting intelligence — Joseph C. Wilson IV — had a wife who worked at the CIA.
Miller told a jury in Libby’s perjury trial that Libby also mentioned Wilson’s wife to her in a July 8 breakfast meeting she had with Libby at the dining room of the St. Regis Hotel.

The partisan nonsense meter hit a high Thursday following a protracted bout of bickering in the House that heated up after Florida Rep. Alan Grayson made his views about his Republican colleagues eminently clear, but he's not sorry, and he's not apologizing -- at least not yet. This does not please said colleagues, but House Speaker Nancy Pelosi isn't in a hurry to appease them either.
Although it certainly seems plausible that, as former President Jimmy Carter said Tuesday, the intense hostility directed at President Barack Obama of late is partly rooted in racism, Obama apparently begs to differ.
