DIG•SCAPE: Eugenics on Repeat
DIG•SCAPE is an audio alternative-phenomenological-impressionistic, multicultural soundscape mashup of loud issues.
This DigScape is a companion piece to Émile P. Torres’s Truthdig feature, “Nick Bostrom, Longtermism, and the Eternal Return of Eugenics.”
“Eugenics asserts that all men must be so stupid that they cannot manage their own affairs; and also so clever that they can manage each other’s.”
― G.K. Chesterton
Eugenics is indeed proof of our deep fascination with torture, crime, injustice. But even more so for me, when it involves myth-busting & hypocrisy. That it is more clearly coming to light due to diligent activist-researchers offers a glimmer of encouragement. That they have unearthed countless hypocrisies is evident when we look at U.S. criticism of China’s persecution & sterilization of the Uyghurs & other ethnic minorities while the U.S. (& Canada, among others), continues to engage in compulsory sterilization at home — in prisons & now ICE detention facilities, for instance. I commend the activists, researchers & journalists as they face willful ignorance & that classic “that’s just the way things are in this world” brand of indifference.
