Matt Damon was apparently paying attention as he narrated “Inside Job,” Charles Ferguson’s Oscar-winning documentary about the architects of the ongoing global economic catastrophe, as he’s broken with the cohort of celebrities who continue to support President Barack Obama two years into his White House tenure.
Speaking with the U.K.’s Independent newspaper about his latest film, “The Adjustment Bureau,” Damon worked in some zingers about Obama’s first-term moves in the economic and educational arenas, giving the president low marks. –KA
TRUTHDIG’S JOURNALISM REMAINS CLEARThe Independent:
Damon, 40, star of the Bourne spy trilogy and two new films, The Adjustment Bureau and True Grit, is scrupulously polite and mild-mannered when we meet in a Manhattan hotel. But laying bare his disenchantment with the Obama administration, he doesn’t hide how let down he feels. President Obama’s record on the economy particularly rankles. “I think he’s rolled over to Wall Street completely. The economy has huge problems. We still have all these banks that are too big to fail. They’re bigger and making more money than ever. Unemployment at 10 per cent? It’s terrible.”
The storytellers of chaos tried to manipulate the political and media narrative in 2025, but independent journalism exposed what they tried to hide. When you read Truthdig, you see through the illusion.
