It may sound like an impossible feat to appear in a popular superhero series without even having to physically show up for the job, but that's just what Comedy Central pseudo-pundit Stephen Colbert has pulled off by lending his name and likeness to Marvel Comic's "Amazing Spider-Man" #573.

Written by acclaimed writer Mark Waid with art by Patrick Olliffe, the eight-page story finds Colbert — who is a presidential candidate in the Marvel Universe — making his first full comic book appearance since Oni Press’ “Tek Jansen” series. As to exactly why the outspoken leader of the Colbert Nation would need to team-up with the web-slinger (one would assume Colbert could handle any problem he faced on his own) remains a mystery, but check out a snippet of art from the story after the jump for possible clues…or if you just need a laugh today.

The Trump critic and satirist has been one of the most thoughtful, funny and genuinely decent people on television.
He's filling the seat long commanded by David Letterman, which is a gigantic deal in and of itself, but whether Colbert's version of "The Late Show" gets off the ground ultimately has to do with whether he can fly solo—on his own terms.
