Calif. Gov. Jerry Brown All But Endorses Hillary Clinton for President
She's not just ready to run, Jerry Brown told The Washington Post, "Hillary Clinton has the presence, the experience and the support of the vast majority of Democrats in a way that I have not seen in my lifetime."She’s not just ready to run, Jerry Brown told The Washington Post, “Hillary Clinton has the presence, the experience and the support of the vast majority of Democrats in a way that I have not seen in my lifetime.”
As the Post points out, Brown has a rocky history with the Clintons, having refused to endorse Bill Clinton after losing to the Arkansas governor in the 1992 Democratic primary.
Brown stopped short of actually endorsing Hillary Clinton (we’re still a couple of years away from that race, after all), but he said the nomination is hers if she wants it.
Meanwhile, Ready for Hillary, the PAC set up to help fund her run if the former first lady, senator and secretary of state decides to make a bid, will be supporting other candidates with direct campaign contributions. This news comes from Bloomberg:
Ready for Hillary PAC “has established an additional depository account for the purpose of making contributions to candidates and committees” in accordance with a 2011 federal court ruling, the PAC said in a filing today to the Federal Election Commission.
In campaign-finance parlance, Ready for Hillary is becoming a “hybrid PAC,” or a mix of a super-PAC and a traditional PAC. As a hybrid PAC, Ready for Hillary can continue to accept unlimited contributions in one bank account that it can use for so-called independent expenditures, while maintaining a second account that’s subject to donation limits and can be used to give money directly to candidates.
