Both parties put aside their differences for the sake of the annual Kennedy Center Honors, which included Streisand as one of six artists saluted in this year’s lineup.

Streisand and fellow award recipients — actor Morgan Freeman, country music giant George Jones, choreographer Twyla Tharp, and the Who’s Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey — were feted during two days of events that seemed, for a rare moment in the nation’s capital, to relegate politics to the back seat.
“This is being honored by your country,” said Streisand, 66, at a black-tie party Saturday night in the State Department’s ornate Thomas Jefferson room. “It was nice to get the Legion of Honor from France, but it’s nice to get it from your own country too.”
Streisand, a stalwart Democrat, added that it “would have been nice” to receive the award next year, from Bush’s successor, but she’s not complaining.

What are we to make of the news that President Barack Obama swanned into Hollywood for a Democratic fundraiser this week and was not met by so-called event co-hosts Barbra Streisand and Jeffrey Katzenberg, although they (continued).
John McCain took the opportunity Tuesday to criticize Barack Obama for consorting with celebrities at a Democratic fund drive in Hollywood that night, but McCain had apparently forgotten about his own celeb-attended fundraiser in Beverly Hills last month. McCain supporter Wilford Brimley has yet to comment on this grievous oversight.
Barack Obama will get the star treatment from Hollywood denizens (or is it the other way around?) once more before the election, at a two-part fundraising extravaganza on Sept. 16.
