Now Bernie Sanders has wild birds working for him.

When a little bird flew onto Sanders’ podium at a rally in Portland, Ore., on Friday, a fired-up crowd of his supporters erupted in delight.

The bird and a beaming Sanders checked each other out for several seconds before the Democratic presidential candidate ad-libbed, “I think there may be some symbolism here.”

The bird—which has already won Internet fame as “Birdie Sanders” and a #BirdieSanders hashtag on Twitter — was really a dove of peace, Sanders suggested. With his legions of young supporters, some would say Bernie has been blessed by the sweet bird of youth.
