Six years after the disastrous invasion of Iraq, Britain’s armed forces have formally ended their combat mission in the war-torn country. Believing that their role is finished, U.K. government officials handed over control of their base to the U.S.—not Iraqi—military.

The two senators appealed to the Senate—and to 3 million other Americans via e-mail—to back their call to withdraw combat troops from Iraq “by a hard and fast deadline.”
Sens. Jack Reed and Carl Levin supported the call—unlike many Democrats and most Republicans.

According to the strategy being mulled, President Bush would simply declare victory over obesity and announce a plan to withdraw most low-carb products from supermarket shelves by the end of 2006. (satire)
