Glenn Greenwald Suggests More Revelations Are Coming

On the heels of breaking the bombshell stories about the National Security Agency’s secret phone surveillance and data-mining programs, the Guardian columnist hinted on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday that these reports were just the beginning.

Scheer Trumps Krugman in Stockman Debate

Journalist Mike Whitney praised the Truthdig editor in chief for being “the only voice on the left” to defend former Reagan budget director David Stockman against an “army of toffeenose pundits” who failed to honor the essential truth of Stockman’s controversial New York Times op-ed.

CIA Director Is a Downer When He Makes Sense

CIA Director Leon Panetta estimates that there are currently fewer than 100 al-Qaida fighters—that’s one for every thousand or so U.S. soldiers—left in Afghanistan. Outgoing intelligence director James Jones has used the same figure. (Rant continues after the jump.)

VP Fight: Biden vs. Cheney

What is the purpose of the Sunday morning talk shows if not to provide vice presidents past and present an opportunity to dump on each other?

Paul Krugman Explains to Roger Ailes Why Fox News Is Garbage

It’s all well and good to snipe at the opposition from Microsoft Word, quite another to tell the guy sitting next to you that he’s a propagandist. Kudos to Paul Krugman for bringing a little more fact-checking and a little less elbow-rubbing to the Sunday morning talk show circuit.

Obama on Gaza, Investigating Bush Abuses and More

George Stephanopoulos picked the president-elect’s brain Sunday in a wide-ranging interview. On Gaza, Obama defended his silence but he said to expect Mideast action on Day 1. On prosecuting Bushies for abuses such as torture or domestic spying, don’t hold your breath. On the economy, “Everybody’s going to have to give.”

On the Sunday before the Indiana and North Carolina primaries, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton each made hour-long appearances on morning talk shows that few voters actually watch. It’s the party insiders who never miss a “Meet the Press” who probably will decide the nomination, and the candidates know it.

A ‘Preview’ of ABC’s McCain Interview

Robert Greenwald’s Brave New Films crew has a little fun at ABC host George Stephanopoulos’ expense in this clip, imagining their own version of Stephanopolous’ interview with John McCain on Sunday.

McCain and Hagel

McCain vs. Hagel

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., took turns trash-talking each other’s Iraq proposals on Sunday’s “This Week.” Hagel threw McCain’s words back at him, calling his benchmark plan for Iraq “disingenuous,” while McCain said that, other than his own, “they’re all bad options….”

Gordon Smith

Gordon Smith Goes to Washington

Sen. Gordon Smith (R-Ore.) on “This Week” elaborated on remarks he made earlier on the Senate floor, where he called the Iraq war “absurd” and possibly even “criminal.”  Asked what had brought about his change of heart, Smith replied: “Waking up the other morning and turning on the news and hearing that yet another 10 of our soldiers died the same way that several thousand have ... and I went from steamed to boiled.” Watch it
