“The Situation Room” is a familiar venue for the kind of hysteria and nonsense that has become the hallmark of television news, so it comes as no surprise that host Wolf Blitzer and a cohort of CNN’s loudest Chicken Littles have declared Social Security at “the final tipping point” and “broke” despite $2.5 trillion in reserves and a bright future.

Calling Sarah Palin’s recent interview with CBS anchor Katie Couric “the last straw,” Newsweek editor and columnist Fareed Zakaria tells Wolf Blitzer on Monday’s episode of “The Situation Room” that it’s not a matter of Palin not giving the right answer when faced with a complex question about the economy or foreign policy, “it’s that she clearly does not understand the question.”

David Petraeus during Tuesday’s update session about Iraq failed to make the grade for Michael Ware, CNN’s “Situation Room” correspondent. Ware declared the session “frighteningly disappointing,” telling host Wolf Blitzer, “I just see a lot of oxygen being wasted here.”

It looks like the two senators have decided to skip their respective primaries and run against each other directly on the “Situation Room.” In all fairness, this isn’t a feud so much as John McCain sniping at Barack Obama’s airtime with e-mail.
