Angry at school officials and the media for ousting football hero Joe Paterno, thousands of Penn State students poured into the streets of their college town Wednesday night, clashing with police, chanting and taking their frustrations out on local property and a news van.

Since 1950, Joe Paterno has been a fixture at Penn State’s football program and a legend in college football. He sent more than 250 players to the NFL and ran as clean an athletic program as may be reasonably accomplished, but now he has to end his career on a low note.

Although the tawdry videos that cost U.S. Navy Capt. Owen Honors his position on the USS Enterprise as of Tuesday weren’t exactly top secret before, they clearly had enough of a shelf life to generate a fresh scandal—and to spur the Pentagon to tuck Honors away in an administrative post.

We will report this story without the egregious use of maritime metaphors: The U.S. Navy is looking into a case involving one Capt. Owen Honors, commanding officer of the USS Enterprise, and the making of some videos showing sexualized encounters between sailors.

So, as per usual, Italy’s own media baron and embarrassment-in-chief Silvio Berlusconi is embroiled in another sex scandal involving another teenage girl. This time, however, he’s made it worse with homophobic commentary that didn’t fly with actress Julianne Moore.

This week’s show certainly gets lively as the panelists debate whether Wall Street’s work benefits the nation—and the world at large—or just its denizens’ own bank accounts. Also, they take up Obama’s performance as Wall Street’s pied piper and engage in another on-air tussle over the Catholic Church’s crisis.

Golf superstar Tiger Woods has stayed out of the public eye since the news about his expansive infidelity scandal broke last Thanksgiving, but on Friday, an apparently penitent Woods made a brief appearance and a sober apology at a press conference before returning to continue his treatment program. Reactions to his show of contrition, perhaps unsurprisingly, were mixed.

Remember the name Mark Foley? It can be difficult to keep all the GOP sex scandals from blending together, especially when trying to remember one so far back as 2006, but Foley’s the ex-congressman from Florida who wound up in big trouble for sending raunchy messages to an underage page.
