Israel Resumes Attack

Following a three-hour pause in its aerial bombardment to allow those in the Gaza Strip to “get medical attention, get supplies ... whatever they need,” Israel has resumed its attack, although it promised additional halts amid reports that Hamas and Israel are working out details of a cease-fire. Overall, 660 Palestinians have been reported killed, including more than 200 children.

Gaza Morgue Runs Out of Room

Shifa hospital in Gaza has struggled to keep pace with Israel’s punishing airstrikes. Bloomberg reports that the hospital’s morgue has three bodies crammed in each drawer, with dozens more lying on stretchers.

Aid Groups Slam Gaza Blockade

A coalition of human rights and development groups has condemned Israel’s blockade of Gaza as the worst humanitarian crisis the territory has suffered since 1967. The Israeli government has defended the blockade as a necessary strategy against rocket attacks, a claim the aid groups reject.

Israel has come under rocket fire from Lebanon, but says it will show restraint. Hezbollah has denied responsibility for the attack, the first since the Israel-Lebanon war last year. Israel and Lebanon have blamed the Palestinians, but no group has claimed responsibility yet.

Israel Considers ‘Other Actions’ in Gaza

The Israeli ambassador to the U.S. has said his country’s actions in Gaza, including airstrikes, have been “very measured” in response to Palestinian rocket attacks and a devolving political situation, but that “other actions” may be necessary in the future. An anonymous Israeli official said that could include reoccupying Gaza, which he described as the least desirable scenario.
