Former Top General Calls Bush ‘Incompetent’

Gen. Ricardo Sanchez, the former top commander in Iraq, has issued a devastating critique of the “incompetent strategic leadership within our national leaders” in planning and executing the Iraq war, which he called a “catastrophic failure.”  Sanchez also warned that the president’s “surge” might “stave off defeat” but will not lead to victory.

N. Korea Plans Nuclear Test

North Korea said it will conduct a nuclear test, a key step in the manufacture of atomic bombs, but also said it’s committed to disarmament—suggesting that the whole thing is a bargaining ploy.
So, Iraq has suspected facilities related to weapons of mass destruction and we invade? But North Korea announces it’s building a bomb and Condi Rice shoots off a press release?

Army Gen.: Rumsfeld Muzzled Postwar Plans

Army Brig. Gen. Mark Scheid, who retires in three weeks, said the Defense secretary threatened in 2003 to “fire the next person” who talked about the need for postwar planning for Iraq. Rumsfeld apparently knew such talk would create the perception that the U.S. would be there a long time.
This is big: It’s a current Army general saying this—albeit one who’s about to retire. And it confirms what outsiders (like journalists) have been reporting for some time.
