Joe Wilson Wants Dick Cheney to Let It All Hang Out

Ever the fan of cherry-picking, former Vice President Dick Cheney has called for the declassification of select intelligence he claims would polish his torture legacy. Whistle-blower extraordinaire Joe Wilson says the “most secretive individual in American politics” shouldn’t stop there—why not air all of the Bush administration’s dirty laundry once and for all?

Bush Claims Privilege Over Cheney Interviews

One of the benefits of saturating the American people with scandal is that folks eventually stop paying attention. That’s certainly the case with Plamegate, which is still being investigated despite the president’s best efforts to the contrary and a public that has generally moved on.

Ex-Press Secretary Throws Bush Under the Bus

Scott McClellan was one of George W. Bush’s most loyal aides, so it is surprising to learn that he savages the president and his administration in his new memoir. Among other bombshells, McClellan refers to the administration’s “propaganda campaign” to sell the war and accuses Karl Rove and Scooter Libby of meeting in secret during the Plamegate scandal in order to get their stories straight.

Plame’s Lawsuit Dismissed by Federal Judge

Valerie Plame’s lawsuit against Vice President Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, “Scooter” Libby and Richard Armitage for allegedly conspiring to leak her identity as a CIA operative was dismissed on “jurisdictional grounds” without comment by U.S. District Judge John D. Bates on Thursday.

With Friends Like These, Who Needs Judges?

Remember when President Bush promised to fire anyone in the White House involved in the leaking of Valerie Plame’s identity? How far we’ve come. “Scooter” Libby’s commutation is but the latest outrage perpetrated by an administration more concerned with protecting its secrets than the rule of law.

The High Cost of Libby’s Silence

Bush probably has ensured that Cheney’s guy won’t spill the beans.  But in doing so the president has thrown dirt on the words of the Declaration of Independence.

Libby Goes Free

Just hours after a federal appeals panel told I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby to go directly to jail without passing go, President Bush stepped in to commute his sentence, thus setting the former Cheney aide and star of Plamegate free. Libby will still have to pay a $250,000 fine, so look for him on the lecture circuit.

Sentencing for Dummies

With his sentencing looming, it appears that I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby—one of the highest White House officials ever convicted of a felony—has learned precisely nothing from his trial and conviction on charges of false statements, obstruction of justice, and perjury. Note: originally published on TomDispatch.

Cheney Escapes Cross-Examination

The lawyer of alleged perjurer “Scooter” Libby revealed Tuesday that neither his client nor the vice president will testify for the defense. Dick Cheney would have been the first vice president to testify at a criminal trial, open to a range of uncomfortable questions from the prosecution.

Libby Trial Reveals Cheney’s Upset

There can be no doubt after multiple witnesses and now audio recordings from Libby himself that the White House was hopping mad about Joe Wilson’s assertion that the administration cherry-picked intelligence to make the case for war. On the tapes, Libby describes the vice president as “upset” and “disturbed” over what he considered a political assault.

Does Scooter Stand a Chance?

Conflicted journalist Judith Miller added her damning testimony to a mounting heap on Tuesday, saying “Scooter” Libby did in fact reveal to her that Joseph Wilson’s wife worked at the CIA. With more and more witnesses contradicting Libby’s account of events, his trial is starting to feel like a technicality on the way to a pardon.
