To suddenly realize at age 7 that balls and testicles referred to the same thing was a real eye-opener for me. It meant that the obscenity of the word balls was not intrinsic to the thing that it referred to, but rather to the word itself.

‘Pedophile’s Guide’ Author Arrested

The author who gained national attention last month by selling his self-published “Pedophile’s Guide to Love & Pleasure” on Amazon has been arrested on obscenity charges. Authorities are concerned that the book advocates illegal behavior, a familiar challenge to free speech protections.

Abercrombie Ad Rankles Va. Beach Cops

Teen-targeting retailer Abercrombie & Fitch has long pushed the erotic envelope when it comes to its saucy ads, usually depicting proto-Adonises stripped to the waist and gamboling together, with a scantily clad female or two thrown in for good measure. The company’s latest campaign, though, was clearly too much for the (fashion) police of Virginia Beach, Va.
