Saxby “Big Daddy” Chambliss has successfully defended his U.S. Senate seat against rival and fraternity brother Jim Martin. After a close contest in the general election, the two were forced into a runoff Tuesday, which Chambliss won handily.

Stumping for Chambliss, Sarah Palin continues to draw throngs of Republicans while others wish she would simply go away.

After two months and 261 rounds of bidding, the FCC announced Tuesday that it has raised a total of $19.6 billion from the sale of the U.S. wireless spectrum. The revenue, slated to fund “public safety and digital television transition initiatives,” is nearly double what Congress had previously estimated for the publicly owned spectrum.

Rudy Giuliani was widely praised for his demagogic smackdown of Ron Paul during the second Republican debate, feigning shock and outrage at Paul’s explanation of “blowback.” But Giuliani’s performance, while a crowd-pleaser, exposed the superficiality of his terror-fighting credentials. As CNN’s Roland Martin writes: “Giuliani must be an idiot to not have heard Paul’s rationale before.”

Shortly before being fired, a Lockheed Martin engineer posted a 10-minute video on YouTube alleging that the military contractor was turning a blind eye to critical security flaws on Coast Guard patrol boats. An investigation is underway. It’s apparently the first time someone has used YouTube to make such an accusation. (Article / Video)
