Fatwa Issued Against Pakistani President for ‘Flirting’ With Palin

Tina Fey, in character again as Sarah Palin for last weekend’s “Saturday Night Live,” made light of how the Republican vice presidential candidate was “literally” embraced by “a couple of them Pakistani guys” she met at the United Nations last week. Unfortunately for Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, though, the prayer leader of Islamabad’s Red Mosque isn’t laughing about Zardari’s encounter with Palin last Thursday.

Pakistan Blast Seen as Payback for Red Mosque Raid

Sunday’s explosion near Islamabad’s Melody Market is believed to be retaliation for last summer’s official crackdown on the nearby Lal Masjid (Red Mosque) mosque and seminary, according to Pakistan’s Daily Times. Nineteen people, most of them policemen, were killed in the blast.

Deadly Shootout at Islamabad’s ‘Red Mosque’

A clash between Pakistani police and students associated with the Lal Masjid (“Red Mosque”) in Islamabad resulted in nine deaths Tuesday, and 140 were reported wounded, according to the BBC.
