Gay Marriage Bill a No-Go in N.J. Senate

The New Jersey Senate on Thursday put a major damper on the pro-gay marriage camp’s effort to score another victory for its cause in the Northeast, defeating a same-sex marriage bill by a vote of 14 yeas and 20 nays. Supporters had hoped that the bill would pass before Gov. Jon Corzine, who favors legalization of same-sex marriage, leaves office later this month.

Gay Marriage Vote Coming Soon in N.J. Senate

The New Jersey Senate has reportedly scheduled Thursday for their vote on whether to legalize gay marriage. Timing will be key in determining the outcome of the issue in the Garden State. Gay marriage advocates have a sympathetic governor in office for only another two weeks.

GOP Scores a Win in Virginia Governor’s Race

A year ago, Virginia surprised the nation by skewing blue in the presidential election, handing Barack Obama a key win below the Mason-Dixon Line. However, this trend didn’t extend into the 2009 gubernatorial race in the state, as the majority of Virginians voted in favor of conservative Republican Bob McDonnell on Tuesday.

Eleven days after a car accident nearly claimed his life, New Jersey Gov. Jon S. Corzine was in stable enough condition to entertain the possibility of resuming work from his hospital bed.  His staff is apparently looking into video-conferencing options for him to use when he is ready and able.
