Hacker ‘Weev’ Is Out of Jail, but His ‘Fight for Freedom’ Isn’t Over Yet

After spending over a year in a federal correctional institution, “Weev” Auernheimer’s conviction has been vacated by an appeals court. The U.S. government may try him again and critics of his prosecution hope Auernheimer’s plight will underscore the need to put an end to the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.

The House Judiciary Committee, reviewing a proposal for a new law aimed at combating online piracy, suspended discussions Friday without setting a date to reconvene. The move pleased top Internet companies and others who warn that the bill could lead to a new age of censorship on the Web.
