Yes, Democrats scored some big legislative victories in Congress over the last two years and, as President Obama noted earlier in the week, the Dems were able to overcome “gridlock” (in no small part because they commanded the majority of the House and Senate) ...

The push to repeal “don’t ask, don’t tell” has met with mixed reactions in Congress in recent weeks, but on Wednesday the House of Representatives made a decisive move to promote the cause by passing another measure designed to cancel out the controversial policy.

That pronounced blast of disapproval from the left-leaning ranks in the House of Representatives last week may not be enough to blow President Barack Obama’s tax-cut proposal down, as the Senate gave it a strong vote of confidence Monday.

According to a clearly disapproving Rep. John Boehner, the House of Representatives’ vote Thursday in favor of keeping tax cuts for people earning less than $250,000 a year was tantamount to “chicken crap.”

Making a move that, while certainly bold, may not help his case much in the end, Rep. Charles Rangel decided to peace out of a House ethics committee meeting as members deliberated over charges of ethics violations against Rangel himself.

With just a week to go before the midterm elections, it’s looking like Republicans are in good shape to take control of the House of Representatives, and it’s a long shot but not completely impossible that they could win big in the Senate, according to Reuters.

The newly hatched tea party caucus in the House of Representatives, for which we all have Rep. Michele Bachmann to thank, is sure to be a source of curiosity for many—and derision for others. Haters can hate, but this won’t be a coalition of one, as Bachmann already had another recruit by Tuesday.

The highly pressing matter of H.R. 323, otherwise known as the “IHOPs Should Stay Open All Night So We Can Get Some Pancakes Act,” may be a figment of The Onion writing staff’s twisted satirical imagination, but we can’t say for sure that ideas like this haven’t occurred to our friends in Congress.

For the first time in 20 years, a Republican has been elected to Congress to represent the Honolulu district where President Barack Obama grew up. The GOP midterm win speaks more to the fact that two candidates split the vote on the Democratic side than any surge in Hawaiian Republican pride.

He’s the congressman who shouted “It’s a baby killer!” during the House debate preceding Sunday’s historic vote for health care reform, and now Texas Rep. Randy Neugebauer is striking while the limelight is hot, asking for support while his wife Dana gazes into the wrong camera in this campaign ad.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi talked tough on Monday on the subject of health care reform, which is no surprise. What is more interesting is the plan she outlined for how she and her fightin’ Dems will “kick through this door” and pass the legislation in a fashion that many people will find somewhat confusing.

Former Congressman Eric Massa is no longer in the House, but his tarnished legacy may live on a little longer there if House Minority Leader John Boehner has his way. Rep. Boehner wants to revive the ethics investigation into sexual harassment claims against Massa, with the aim of finding out what House Democratic leaders knew about the Massa mess and when they knew it.

Homeowners facing foreclosure could get help if Congress approves a “cram-down” measure, which would give bankruptcy judges the ability to alter mortgage terms. The House of Representatives is gearing up to vote on the amendment, but it’s not likely to be an easy victory by any stretch.

On Thursday, the House of Representatives approved a massive spending bill, totaling $447 billion, which includes quite a few earmarks. In fact, 5,224 earmarks made their way into the bill, adding up to about $3.9 billion. This did not please House Republicans, of whom not a single member voted for the measure.

The partisan nonsense meter hit a high Thursday following a protracted bout of bickering in the House that heated up after Florida Rep. Alan Grayson made his views about his Republican colleagues eminently clear, but he’s not sorry, and he’s not apologizing—at least not yet. This does not please said colleagues, but House Speaker Nancy Pelosi isn’t in a hurry to appease them either.

The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act, also known as the Matthew Shepard Act, on Wednesday. Similar but weaker legislation had failed two years ago in the face of opposition from President Bush. Before Wednesday’s vote, Republican Rep.
