Carl Paladino has made a joke of the New York governor’s race, but on Sunday the tea party candidate showed he could be hateful as well. Speaking to a group of Orthodox Jews just days after it was reported that two teenagers and an adult were tortured nearby in the Bronx for being gay, Paladino said children should not be “brainwashed” into thinking homosexuality is “equally valid.” (continued)

By Robert Fisk — So once again, Israel has opened the gates of hell to the Palestinians. Forty civilian refugees dead in a United Nations school, three more in another. Not bad for a night’s work in Gaza by the army that believes in “purity of arms”. But why should we be surprised?

What is Ann Coulter’s beef with John Edwards? The human scandal factory who once referred to the candidate as a “faggot” has re-emerged from hate radio silence to suggest that she should have said she hoped Edwards would be killed by terrorists. We already know nothing she says should be taken seriously, so why is “Good Morning America” giving her a soapbox?

More than a million worshipers in Spain showed up to hear the pope deliver a homily in which he made a veiled attack on Spain’s liberal legal attitude toward gay marriage and divorce. Conspicuously not in attendance: the Spanish prime minister. It’s apparently the first time in history that a Spanish leader has missed such an address.
Que bueno. Memo to Pope Benedict XVI: Keep on dressing up hate speech as The Good News and you’ll continue to be marginalized by more-enlightened world leaders.

Need more evidence that our military is stretched too thin? Its ranks reportedly are now being filled with the kind of military ambassadors particularly unsuited to the task of winning foreign hearts and minds.

Watch as Fox host Julie Banderas drowns out a vile anti-gay hatemonger. (Sort of a straw-man target, to be sure, but it’s nice to see Fox News on the correct side of the cultural divide for a change. (Video hoster: Johnny Dollar’s Place.)

The pop star Pink stretches a bit from her standard fare with this protest song about Bush—which includes the lyrics, “How can you say no child left behind? We’re not dumb and we’re not blind…. What kind of father would take his own daughter’s rights away? What kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay?”
