Mary Richardson Kennedy, the estranged wife of prominent environmental lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr., became the Kennedy clan’s latest tragedy when she was found dead Wednesday in a barn behind their home in Bedford, N.Y. A medical examiner confirmed that the 52-year-old died from asphyxiation by hanging.

Deborah Jean Palfrey, whose Washington, D.C.-based call-girl ring earned her notoriety and the nickname the “D.C. Madam,” left two suicide notes behind when she (apparently) hanged herself last Thursday behind her mother’s Florida home.

Adding to a growing chorus of disapproval emanating from Europe, Tony Blair’s official spokesman has said Saddam Hussein’s execution “shouldn’t have happened in that way.” Earlier, Gordon Brown, the man widely expected to be Britain’s next prime minister, said the hanging was “completely unacceptable,” calling it a “deplorable set of events.”

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said early Friday there will be “no review or delay” of Saddam Hussein’s execution. However, confusion abounds as to the timing of the sentence.
