U.S. Soldier Admits to Planning Attack on Fort Hood

A U.S. soldier who has been absent without leave since early July was arrested Wednesday in a motel room hear Fort Hood in Texas where FBI officials announced Thursday that he had been found with guns and bomb-making materials. The AWOL soldier admitted to planning an attack on the base, an Army alert said Thursday.

At Least 30 Killed in American-Aided Strike in Yemen

A meeting of alleged al-Qaida leaders was the target of an airstrike carried out by Yemeni forces with American support in a mountainous zone to the southeast of Yemen on Thursday. Victims and Survivors Honored at Fort Hood Memorial Service

On Tuesday, President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama were on hand at Fort Hood to pay tribute to those soldiers killed or wounded in last Thursday’s shooting at the Texas Army base. The 13 men and women fatally shot during the attack, in which Maj. Fort Hood Gunman Still Alive, Acted Alone

By the end of the day, some confusion about Thursday’s shooting at the Fort Hood Army base in Texas had been cleared up. It turns out, according to later reports, that the military doctor shot at the scene, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, was the only gunman involved in the attack and that he was still alive in its aftermath.
