Two men involved in the NATO summit protests in Chicago are being held on separate terrorism charges. One is accused of making a false threat about blowing up a highway overpass. The other is charged with discussing the making of a pipe bomb.

Explosives-Laden Truck Detonates, Kills 25 in Afghanistan

An overturned truck filled with timber and, it turned out, explosives blew up early Thursday morning in Logar province, Afghanistan, killing 25 people. Thirteen of the victims were children on their way to school, according to the Associated Press.

N.Y. Terror Suspects Were ‘Homegrown’

The four men arrested Wednesday night for allegedly planning to bomb two synagogues in the Bronx and gun down military planes were “not connected to another terrorist group,” New York Sen. Charles Schumer said in a statement Thursday.

America’s Largest Nuclear Plant Put on Lockdown

A contract worker who was apparently attempting to bring a small explosive device onto the grounds of Arizona’s Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station on Friday was stopped and detained, according to the Associated Press, and officials would not let anyone enter or leave the plant after the incident.

Bombs Are Mileposts on Road to Civil War

More roadside bombs were planted in July than in any other month during the Iraq war, indicating a sharp rise in violence as the country moves toward all-out civil war.  According to data obtained by The New York Times, 2,625 devices either exploded or were discovered in July, compared with 1,454 in January.

    It was looking like snakes were going to be the biggest threat to planes this summer, but energy drink bottles filled with explosive liquids turned out to be the real problem.

  • Check out the TSA’s hours-old official ban on liquids on planes.
