Israel is blaming Iran, its longtime adversary, for the deaths of seven Israeli tourists in a bomb attack on a bus in Burgas, Bulgaria. The bus was carrying 40 members of an Israeli group from the airport to their hotels when the blast occurred.

Tanker Truck Blast Kills 230 in the Congo

At least 230 people were killed and 190 injured when an oil tanker truck flipped over and blew up in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The blast was reportedly sparked by a cigarette as local residents attempted to collect oil spilling from the wreck.

At least seven people were injured and 11 went missing Tuesday night after an explosion went off on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig off the coast of Louisiana. But by late Wednesday morning, the missing workers were reportedly located on a lifeboat, according to The New York Times.

Two separate explosions in the Moscow subways killed at least 38 people, according to Russian officials. One of the blasts occurred at a station beneath the headquarters of the Russian security service. Officials said two women suicide bombers carried out the attacks, though no group has yet claimed responsibility.

Bomb Kills 5 U.S. Soldiers in Baghdad

In one of the deadliest strikes in months, five U.S. soldiers were fatally injured by a suicide bomber Monday as they patrolled Baghdad’s Mansour district. Three other soldiers and an Iraqi translator were wounded in the blast but survived, according to the BBC.

Mosque Bombing Kills Dozens

A devastating explosion near a Shiite mosque in the center of Baghdad has killed at least 78 people and injured more than 200. The mosque’s imam said the attack was carried out by “sick souls” who targeted worshipers as they left the prayer hall. Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said that such attacks have “scarred the beautiful face of Baghdad by destroying the religious landmarks it has known over the centuries.”

Bloody Sunday

A series of explosions around the world has killed more than 120 people. A train bombing in northern India left at least 64 people dead, while three car bombs in Baghdad—the bloodiest violence since a security crackdown began—killed more than 60 and injured at least 131. A bomb also exploded at a McDonald’s in St. Petersburg, Russia, in an act of “hooliganism,” according to police. There was no indication that each nation’s violence was related to the explosions in the other countries.
