A military show of strength defined the sixth day of anti-government protests across Egypt. Jet fighters repeatedly flew over Cairo’s Tahrir Square, the main center for demonstrators, while a column of tanks, a la Tiananmen Square, was blocked by protesters.

Amid a new wave of protests across Egypt comes news that the country is now under curfew, military vehicles prowl the streets, and opposition leader Mohamed ElBaradei has been placed under house arrest.

With an almost rock-star return, Mohamed El Baradei, former head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, has come back home to Cairo, greeted by an estimated 500 supporters. The crowd was so large it prevented him from leaving the airport.

U.N. inspectors have found “nothing to be worried about” in their first report after visiting a previously clandestine uranium-enrichment site south of Tehran. The clean assessment, which described the site as a “hole in a mountain,” may cause critics to now look for more diplomatic solutions to Iran’s nuclear program.

Mohamed El Baradei cautioned on Monday that as many as 30 nations could rapidly develop nuclear weapons. The International Atomic Energy Agency chief warned that countries are “hedging their bets” by developing peaceful nuclear programs that could provide the necessary technology and material for weaponization.
