The Skinny on GOP Trip to the Holy Land

Despite a stodgy reputation, Republicans are capable of a little craziness. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor was moved to scold a group of GOP congressmen who drank and went swimming—at least one of them in the nude (that’s him pictured)—during a “fact-finding” trip to Israel last year.

Study: Women Can Double Up on the Drinks

There has been some good news regarding women and booze of late. Back in August, a study out of Norway explored the potentially fortuitous link between drinking and intelligence, and now there’s another that ... (continued)

Heavy Drinkers Live Longer Than Nondrinkers

A study has found that people who drink a lot of alcohol tend to live longer than people who never touch the stuff. So much for not burning the candle at both ends. But don’t go crashing that frat party just yet: People who drink in moderation, as in one to three drinks a day, live longest of all.

Malaysia Canes Women

Although the oppression of women in some foreign countries is routine, we ought not to forget cases like the recent ones in Malaysia in which three women were caned for having extramarital intercourse and another awaits a caning decision for, *gasp*, drinking beer.

Cheney-Drinking Questions Percolating (and fermenting)

The traditional media and the blogosphere are abuzz with questions about the drinking Cheney did before hunting; whether his medications, combined with alcohol, may have played a role; and whether this explains why he didn’t alert the media for so long about the accident (i.e., did he need the time to get the intoxicants out of his system?).
Some of the best writing on the topic:

Cheney Admits to Drinking Before Accident

In a Fox News interview, Cheney admits to drinking a beer at lunch before the hunt, which took place a few hours later. (Hat tip: Think Progress.) If he’s low-balling the amount he drank, it wouldn’t be the first time Cheney misled the public.
UPDATE: AMERICAblog reports that MSNBC’s website “scrubbed” a reference to Cheney’s drinking.
