Report: Authorities Admit Abuse at Iranian Prison

Iran’s Mehr News Agency reported Monday that local authorities have admitted that a 25-year-old detainee who was arrested in the wave of protests following June’s presidential election in Iran died from abuse at the hands of prison officials, according to The New York Times.

Iran Says 140 Protesters Have Been Freed

Iranian officials announced that 140 detainees have been released from prison in Tehran, while some 200 are still being held. But the numbers announced by authorities and those given by protest leaders differ significantly. According to the latter, thousands are still being held and about 100 people have been killed during the election protests.
