Oscars 2013: Watch Michelle Obama Announce ‘Argo’ as Best Picture

Sunday night’s Academy Awards had a very special guest on hand: Michelle Obama. The first lady, dressed in a silvery, shimmery evening gown by designer Naeem Khan, made a surprise live appearance from the Diplomatic Room of the White House at the end of the Oscars to help Jack Nicholson hand out the evening’s final and biggest award, best picture.

Boy, Stephen Colbert got a lot accomplished on “The Colbert Report” this past week! He established whose God was best (duh) and why writing an Op-Ed in The New York Times is a clear sign of desperation and defeat (double duh), and he even managed to outdo Rep. Barney Frank in the table-talk department. But with what kind of cracker does Obamargarine go best? Hmmm.

‘Brokeback Mountain’ Goes Operatic

“Brokeback Mountain” is heading to the opera. The short story by Annie Proulx that inspired Ang Lee’s 2005 big-screen love story between cowboys Ennis del Mar and Jack Twist will be adapted for the New York City Opera by Charles Wuorinen, according to Variety, and is slated to premiere in all its operatic glory in the spring of 2013.

China Censors Ang Lee’s Speech

Government television cut out Lee’s mention of gays and lesbians as well as his thank you to China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Homophobia is alive and well in Communist China. Maybe the Christian right should move there.
